Cosmo Fujiyama is a nonprofit strategist, program designer and facilitator passionate about citizen engagement, education, and social innovation. Born in San Francisco and based in Brooklyn, Cosmo is on a mission to connect and train the next generation of global social innovators. She works with social entrepreneurs to help advance their professional goals and social ventures.

Cosmo is Program Director of the Center for Social Impact Strategy at the University of Pennsylvania. She manages and leads programs that help achieve the Center’s objective to develop a deeper understanding of the distinctive strategies adopted by changemakers as they seek to innovate and generate social impact. She has designed and facilitated immersive residential programs that has trained 80+ innovators with skills in leadership, design thinking and organizational strategy. She is currently developing new models for online executive education aimed at mid-career nonprofit professionals interested in social impact.

In 2014, Cosmo served as a Fellow at The Governance Lab at New York University, an organization funded the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation that aims to improve people’s lives by changing how they govern using advances in technology and science. She led The GovLab Academy, a free, online community for those interested in teaching and learning how to open their institutions and work more collaboratively to solve public problems that improve people's lives. 

Cosmo also worked for Ashoka, the world’s largest association of social innovators, identifying social entrepreneurs, and led Ashoka Youth Venture's partnership with New York University’s Stern School of Business. As facilitator for Ashoka Changemakers & American Express Emerging Innovators Boot Camp program in 2014, she worked with 30 entrepreneurs selected in New York City and Toronto. From 2006 to 2010, Cosmo co-founded and led a nonprofit organization in Honduras focused on building educational infrastructure, funding educational programs targeted at women and girls and strengthening community engagement. 

A graduate of the College of William and Mary and New York University's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Policy, she was named a Reynolds Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship in 2011. She is a member and facilitator of Hive, a global network of leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs under 40 who are working on creating a better world. She has conducted workshops on social entrepreneurship around the world, including in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Macedonia. She is an advisor to Sword & Plough, a social enterprise that empowers veteran employment, reduces waste, and strengthens shared civil-military understanding. She tweets @cosmofujiyama.
